Details
DescriptionPrinted in greyscale in the ‘Leader’ on June 12, 1990. The accompanying article mentioned objections by councillor Ralph Miller ('Teeny Tawdry Town,' 'a monstrosity', 'a rubbish tip writ large' and an eyesore). Forest and Bird, worried about danger from strangers in any nearby trees, and wanted the playground to be in tune with the setting.
The items shown would be made of steel and fibreglass and sponsored by the companies named, and would cost the council $20 000.
Apparently a serious proposal from the director of parks and reserves; not shown was an artificial hill with slides and a series of basins for water or skateboards, depending on the season ($49 000) and a Temptation Trail $18 500). Service clubs would be approached for assistance.
Apparently one of a series of proposals; there is a drawing of a proposal for the Brentwood Street entrance, not printed in the 'Leader', on the reverse.
