Wrightsons had moved their yearling sales to Auckland, and for the first time since 1927 there had been no January yearling sales in Trentham.
Magic Millions was a Gold Coast franchise; eight qualifying races would be held around the country, with $50 000 prizes; winners would compete in Australia.
