In addition to wanting the old bridge kept for access to Moon Ridge Road they proposed taking fill for the bypass from a 'borrow pit' in rough country 'west' (north?) of the river, to allow Moonshine Road to be straightened and widened.
Bill Jeffries was under-secretary to the Minister of Works and Development at the time.
By this time, tenders had been received for the new bridge, but so far none had been selected.
