The Wilsons had been St John members for more than 30 years in Britain, before moving to New Zealand 20 years ago. In exchange for cutting the cake they were presented with a wall plaque and individual citations.
The September 18, 1974 'Leader' printed an article on the Wilson family's association with the Red Cross; three generations were pictured.
Daughter Maureen Hammond had been a member 28 years, husband Roy for 6 and their daughters Ann and Lesley for three and two years; and Mr Hammond's mother, 72, for 42 years.
