DescriptionThe image printed in the August 25, 1981 'Leader' was heavily cropped at top and bottom.
The $700 000 building had a 1400-square-metre area; 15070 square feet (the 'Leader' said 14 500). It would open on Monday, August 31. Doctors Peter Gillies, Denys Heginbotham, Devi Malik, Alistair Rhodes and Harish Rajpal would move in from trinity House, and doctors Moya Cane, Michael Dunn and John Marwick from Warwick House.
The June 3 'Leader' had printed a picture of the front of the building. Instead of $370 000 annual running costs, the Health Department was making a one-off offer of $75 000. The department would pay practice nurses' salaries and $35 a week towards the centre manager. Without further finance, plans for X-ray and accident and emergency facilities, social workers, occupational therapist and dietician might have to be abandoned.
The official opening by the mayor took place on March 27 or 28, 1982; some tenants had been there since August 1981.
