In the early 1960s Syd was firstly the Workshop Foreman, then Service Manager at Tom Croft Motors , the Ford Dealership in Upper Hutt (Main Road north). Later he took up ownership of Miro Motors, a vehicle repair workshop in Miro Street, Upper Hutt.
