By: Brian J. Pearce27th Jan 2014 9:54PMOn 1 November 1954 the Kiwi Butchery opened for business at premises next to Taylor's Shoe Store, just north of Pine Avenue on the west side of Main Road. The former butchery building seen in this image remained in place for some time, and was utilised as temporary premises by an auctioneer for a short period. By July 1956 the site had been cleared and foundation work for a Bank of New Zealand building was underway.
