"On the telephone pole is a 25 pair Cooks (Cookes?) box. A cable from the telephone exchange terminated on the box. Subscribers were connected by open wire lines. The platform on which the lineman stood or sat while working at the box can be seen. He would be in telephone communication with the worker at the main distribution frame (mdf) of the exchange."
