PhotographerLeo MorelDescriptionEast side of Main Street, showing western side wall of Gospel Hall and Federated Farmers of NZ Upper Hutt Branch building frontage, with offices let to R.A. McCulloch & Co. 'Company Secretaries, Accountants, Taxation Specialists', 'Registered Offices of [five names given, not legible in image]' and to premises advertising 'Dental Repairs'.
Behind this frontage were the premises of R.C.H. Askew & Co. Ltd. Wood and Coal Merchants, entrance visible on left. The house visible at extreme left belonged to Mr Askew.
The tower structure visible between the Gospel Hall and the Federated Farmers building, several sections back, was a signal box where train drivers would collect a tablet for going over the Rimutaka Summit; only one train at a time could have the tablet.

Located between Russell and Wakefield Streets.

A similar photo was printed in the 'leader' on October 16, 1996; to celebrate their jubilee, Clark's Chartered Accountants were seeking photographs for a November exhibition in the Civic Centre; there was an associated competition.
The advertisement said that R. A 'Mr Ron' McCulloch had started the firm in 1946, and had been shortly joined by his brother J A, 'Mr John'. In the mid-seventies they had been joined by Bob Clark and Mike Fitzgerald. The McCullochs had died, and the firm was run solely by Bob Clark.

Federated Farmers had been the Farmers' Union up to around 1947.
